iPhone 15 Pro Display: XDR ProMotion OLED HDR Panel and 120Hz Refresh Rate

Apple is making a couple of significant changes to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max this year. For starters, they’re built out of Grade 5 Titanium with a slightly designed contour that will make the devices more comfortable to hold for long durations of time. Apple has made a change to the Mute switch with a customizable Action button which can be used to trigger shortcuts or activate accessibility features other features.

Comparison with Older Models

Apple is making their iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max look very similar to last year’s phones, with slimmer edges around their beautiful displays. That makes them more comfortable and ergonomic handle, even though the larger phones still weigh a lot.

The most significant difference is the addition of the A17 Pro chip on the Pro models. It offers approximately 10% more efficiency than previous chips. It is due to the process for manufacturing 3nm however, it is also due to microarchitectural and design improvements.

The Pro models come with certain features unique to them, such as USB-C support for higher speeds of transfer. This makes it possible for ProRes to be recorded directly onto external drives. This is appealing to creators of video. This TrueDepth front camera also has a few upgrades, and it can produce 4K video at 60 frames per second for HDR display on any external device. There’s also the new Digital AV Multiport Adapter which allows you to connect HDMI monitors as well as standard USB devices.

Upgrades

iPhone 15 Pro Max has packed it with features that have enriched the iPhone 15 Pro Max with some solid upgrades, despite keeping it largely similar in size to earlier models. In the beginning you can now use the Dynamic Island feature and 48-megapixel main camera feature are offered for all models, and a brand new mode for portraits that offers five times the zoom.

It’s also just a bit smaller around the edges thanks to the slimmer bezels. It’s the same 6.7-inch XDR ProMotion OLED HDR panel and it’s capable of as high as 120Hz refresh rates.

A new Action button was added to the left of the handset and is replacing the slider for mute. This button can be programmed so that it is able to open different apps and functions, including triggering the camera or flashlight, by pressing a button. This adds to the usual improvements brought by iOS 17 like mood tracking as well as interactive widgets, and emergency roadside assistance via satellite.

Differences

Despite their vast differences in dimension, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max have some things in common their predecessors. For starters, both are powered by the A17 Pro chip — the first Apple 3nm chip.

They bring significant performance and graphical improvements, which should also help to extend the battery’s life. Additionally, the Titanium chassis is a welcomed addition as well, which helps to make the phones more durable.

Another change that came along with one of the iPhone 15 Pro models is getting rid of the Lightning port, which was replaced with a USB C port. It’s a great change since it increases the speed of data transfer significantly.

Additionally, the latest phones have Wi-Fi connectivity. They also have a more advanced location feature that works together with roadside assistance service providers. Also, you can customize the Action button that replaces the mute button and lets you create custom shortcuts. Round edges which were introduced in the iPhone 11 series also return this year.

Features

The iPhone 15 Pro Max offers a ton of features compared to previous models. It includes night Mode, Spatial video (which uses the ultra-wide and main cameras to collect depth information that can be viewed on Apple Vision Pro), enhanced low-light performance, Smart HDR, as well as next-gen portraits.

The A17 Pro chip also adds improved neural processing that allows for more lower-light performance and quicker motion capture. In addition, it is compatible with enhanced reality functions like AR games and apps that use depth mapping to enhance object tracking.

Other notable updates include the switch to USB-C (it has a reversible connector, so it can be plugged into any standard USB device), which offers faster download speeds for data, and a brand new button called Action that substitutes the mute button featuring haptic feedback and customized actions. And, unlike previous generations of iPhones with rounded edges, the new model are slightly rounded for a more comfortable touch. In addition, the titanium grade 5 construction ensures that the iPhone 15 Pro Max 10 percent lighter than its predecessor.
